A story now four decades in the making, the opening of Star Wars Land at Disneyland and Disney World has brought us the chance to expand our horizons to more adventures around the galaxy.
Taking inspiration from retro Si-Fi movie posters, we wanted to pay homage to the time period that first brought this story to life. The phrase, “I love you to the moon and back” is one that has been common for generations as a way to show affection. Putting a Star Wars twist on it, we thought this design would connect with both fans, families and friends.
The typeface for this design is inspired by movie posters that paired defined lines with elegant shadows and rounded out with the classic Star Wars font. The ship that is known throughout the galaxy (and even able to be piloted at Galaxy’s Edge), the Millennium Falcon can be seen soaring through the sky, it’s clouds helping to form the word “Galaxy’s Edge”. Taking inspiration from the concept art for Batuu, our new home on the Galaxy’s Edge, and other vintage Star Wars art, we combined hand drawn elements to create a cityscape. In the sky we can see stars and other planets shining in gold, as well as two retro style spheres, paying homage to the greetings of Batuu “Bright Suns” (for “good morning”) and “Rising Moons” (for “good night”).
Whether piloting your next adventure on the Millennium Falcon, working to defeat the first order, as a treat for yourself or someone you love, this design is a perfect way to embrace the force that can be found inside us all.
